Phone: 305-872-0774) extends W from Key West to Marquesas Keys.

Key West National
Wildlife Refuge was established in 1908 by President Theodore Roosevelt as a preserve and breeding ground for native birds and other wildlife.

This refuge was the first established in the Florida Keys and one of the earliest refuges in the United States.

The refuge encompasses more than 200,000 acres with only 2,000 acres of land.
The area is home to more than 250 species of birds and is important for sea turtle nesting.

The islands are predominately mangrove with a few beaches and salt ponds.

The refuge is accessible only by boat.

Two of the islands have portions of their beaches closed to the public.

West National Wildlife Refuge a été créé en 1908 par le président
Theodore Roosevelt afin de préserver et de permettre la nidification des oiseaux et autre faune.
Ce refuge a été le premier mis en place dans les Keys de Floride et l'un des premiers refuges aux États-Unis.  Le refuge comprend plus de 200.000 hectares avec seulement 2000 hectares de terres.  La région abrite plus de 250 espèces d'oiseaux et est important pour les tortues de mer nicheurs. 
Les îles sont essentiellement des mangroves avec un peu de plages et les marais salants.

Le refuge est accessible uniquement par bateau.
Deux de ces îles ont une partie de leurs plages fermées au public.
