Golfe Juan is entered between Cap de la Croisette and Point de l'Ilette, 3.8 miles ENE. This gulf is sheltered from the SW by Iles de Lerins and from the S by shoals and is one of the best roadsteads along this part of the coast. In the approaches to the gulf, the currents are weak and are usually influenced by the wind. From seaward, the gulf appears to be bounded to the N by a range of low hills. These hills form a buttress ending at Cap de la Croisette, on their W side, and separate Golfe Juan from Golfe de la Napoule.
The large Golfe Juan bay is a safe anchoring place from E and Mistral winds.
The main access to Golfe Juan is made through Passe de l’Ouest, which lies between Ile Sainte-Marguerite and La Fourmigue. Access can be made through Passe de l’Est, which lies between Le Secanion and the Cap d'Antibes peninsula.

La grande baie de Golfe Juan est bien abritée des vents d'E et du Mistral par les pointes allongées du cap Croisette, à l'W, et du cap d'Antibes à l'E. A mi-distance entre ces deux pointes émerge le haut-fond de la Fourmigue (balisée par une haute tourelle verte lumineuse dont il ne faut pas trop s'approcher). Attention à la Sèche du Secanion, couverte de 5m d'eau, sensiblement à mi-distance entre la tourelle de la Fourmigue et le cap d'Antibes.
