Le port de Cres est situé dans un grand bras de mer sur la côte W de l'île de Cres.
Tout le rivage du goulet est peu profond, en particulier devant Rt Melin où un récif s'étend jusqu'à 0,5 M de la côte. Le goulet s'élargit à 0,5 M de l'entrée. La ville et le port de Cres sont dans le bras NE, la marina ACI et un bon mouillage sont dans la partie S, moins profonde. Il y a au minimum 4 m de fond dans l'approche et l'entrée de la marina.
On peut mouiller dans le S de Luka Cres par 5 à 10 m (au NW de la marina) sur fond de vase et de sable de bonne tenue. La marina offre une bonne protection, mais des vagues d'1 m peuvent submerger les quais de la ville par fort Sirocco.
