Carthagène est un port naturel. Le port de commerce et le port militaire sont situés au fond de la baie. A l'entrée E, le port pétrolier d'Escombrera se trouve au fond d'une indentation de la côte. La marina est juste au bord du quartier historique, en plein centre ville.
