C'est avec l'île de Gargalo à 8 miles plus au Nord, la pointe extrême Ouest de la Corse. Le cap Rosso, constitué de porphyre rose, présente du large la forme d'une pyramide rougeâtre, haute de 340m, sans aucune végétation. On ne peut s'approcher du cap Rosso que par mer calme, la houle qui peut prendre une forte amplitude par vent du large, brisant avec violence sur tous les abords du cap. Les plongeurs sous marins peuvent trouver en ces parages de très beaux tombants.
