The sovereignty of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands was disputed between the United Kingdom and Argentina. Argentina, which claims the islands in its constitution and briefly occupied them by force in 1982, agreed in 1995 to no longer seek settlement by force. The islands have no indigenous population, and currently no permanent population.
Stanley, on East Falkland, is the capital city. The Falklands has many good anchorages, but on the approach to Stanley one should be aware that on the North coast there are not many places to run into for shelter.
