Otok Rab Kvarner

Otok Rab Kvarner

Characteristics

Description

The island of Rab is located in the Gulf of Kvarner between the island of Krk in the north-west and the island of Pag in the southeast.
It is traversed by a chain of hills. The summit of this island stands at the center of the NE side. It is 410m high and surmounted by a conspicuous television mast.
On the island of Rab there are several small communities, mostly south of the island because the northern part of the island is exposed to the Bora while the south has a climate more pleasant and here lies Perhaps the most beautiful pine forest of the Mediterranean. Because of the Bora E coast of the island is bare of vegetation, while the W coast, protected by a line of high hills, is green and fertile.
Otok Rab is separated from the mainland by the Velebitska Kanal, in which the Bora blows with particular force.

The island has many buildings, ruins and artifacts dating from ancient times, many Greek ruins, including Rab, the main town of the island.
