Islas Hormigas (Cabo de Palos-Murcia)

Islas Hormigas (Cabo de Palos-Murcia)

Hormigas islands located in the region of Murcia, 2MN and a half from the coast.
Las Hormigas, formed by a chain of islets and rocky shoals, extends up to 3 miles NE of Cabo de Palos.

Islas Hormiga, the largest islet of this chain, lies 2.3 miles NE of the cape and is 13m high. A light is shown from a tower with a dwelling, 9m high, standing on the SW extremity of this islet.
Bajo de Fuera, the outermost danger of the chain, lies about 0.7 mile NE of Islas Hormiga and has a least depth of 3.8m.
The beauty and exceptional conservation of seabed have earned them the title of marine reserve. We also consider this site as one of the best places in Spain for the practice of diving. Its deep waters contain all sorts of reefs and corals, but also the remains of shipwrecks and shipwrecks.

Diving in this marine reserve is made around the seamounts that are deemed to have a biodiversity and landscape breathtaking.
Caution.—Although the channels lying between Las Hormigas are frequently used, they are not recommended for vessels without localknowledge. Vessels rounding the cape are advised to stay clear of the coast and the dangers in this vicinity.
A marine reserve surrounds the islands and is marked by lighted buoys. It should be avoided.
