Anchorage Bahia de Cartagena (Colombia)

Anchorage Bahia de Cartagena (Colombia)

Characteristics

Description

Approach:
Two possible entries in Cartagena:
  • Boca Chica, cuisers will find a marked path buoys. No particular difficulties if not a regular traffic of cargo and ships.
  • Boca Grande, North entrance of the city.
Once this passage was prevented by a wall at the water awash that had built the Spanish to deny access between Tierra Bomba and Boca Grande. Today, the Carthaginians have built "a door" into the wall, It is marked.
In the channel that is not wide, but sufficient for boaters, there are 5 meters of water between the two buoys.
Beyond the buoys there are about 2 meters over the wall, but not everywhere. The pass is passable in good weather. It shortens the trip from 13NM when you come from the North.
Anchorage:
It is advisable to anchor in Bahia de Cartagena, in deep water (10m+) with a long scope as the sudden southerly squalls can cause dragging in shallower water. The holding in the shallower water closer to the marina is reported to be poor.
